Sightseers Poster Review


Media Language/Genre
The media concepts in this poster are very clever it uses colour and composition to create comedy, the yellow theme colouring throughout the poster gives an indication to the viewer that the film is not a serious one, and that it is in fact a comedy, also the composition reinforces this idea as the two protagonists are shown looking very confused into the distance and below them is a fluffy white dog looking into the distance this adds an incongruous humor to the composition and takes it from looking like a thriller to looking like a comedy. 

As well as this the text on the poster indicates its a comedy, the reviews say things like "Terrific... Funny as hell" this tells the audience that that film is a comedy and so they no what to expect when watching it. Also the poster features a section that says from the makers of..... And the directors of this film are responsible for other hit comedies reinforcing the comedic tone of the film.

Representation

The characters on the poster are not represented in a very stereotypical manner they are both looking into the distance with very menacing facial expressions, however this is directly juxtaposed by there weird and goofy dress sense, this juxtaposition emphasizes the congruous humor of what both characters are wearing. And in turn represents them as being goofy and non stereotypical male and female protagonists. The costume of the characters does reveal that the film is set in rural and natural parts of Britain as they are dressed for travelling and extreme weather conditions, this coupled with the green fields in the background and the name of the film give the audience the feel that the film is set on the road, and mainly in rural parts of Britain.

  1. There is some good analysis here Sam. You need to add another MRANG concept though (I suggest media language), and this means writing in more detail and depth about how the technical codes and use of poster conventions communicate meaning to the consumer to sell the film. Aim to write more - the font is big, and the text quite short.
